もう随分昔のことですが
珊瑚の髪を波に洗う海の王子がおりました。
王子がヒトデを枕に海面を見上げると
クラゲがいくつも浮かんでいたそうです。
「ああ、海の王女はどこにおられるのか」
呟きは泡となり、海中をのぼるのでした。
夕焼けより美しいという伝説の王女。
魔女にさらわれた王女をさがし求め
王子は長く苦しい旅を続けていたのでした。
ふと、王子の耳もとで囁く声がしました。
「王子様、私が海の王女です」
それは真珠のように美しい声でした。
ところが、その姿ときたら
まるで排泄物のように醜いのでした。
「････かわいそうに」
王子はすぐに理解しました。
海の王女は、嫉妬深い魔女のせいで
ナマコに変身させられていたのです。
「王子様の接吻で、もとの姿に戻れます」
醜いナマコの美しい声でした。
さて、ここで王子は困ってしまいました。
王子は決意していたのです。
美しい海の王女を見るまでは死ねない、と。
また、王子は覚悟もしていました。
醜いナマコにキスするくらいなら死ぬ、と。
そこで、海の王子は悩んでしまいました。
ナマコのまわりを歩きまわりながら
首を振ったり、ため息をついたり
いつまでもいつまでも悩むのでした。
美しい珊瑚の髪をかきむしりながら
今でも王子は悩んでいるかも知れませんよ。
