あるところに、父のない子がいた。
おとなしくて、じつにやさしい子で
文句も言わず、母の手伝いをするのだった。
「おまえは本当に良い子だね」
母に頭を撫でられるのが、得意であった。
ところがある日、母のない子に非難された。
「おまえなんか、親の良い子でしかない」
それから、良い子でなくなってしまった。
頼まれても、母の手伝いをしなくなった。
どうしたのだろう、と母は心配になった。
だが、母のない子は感心しない。
「そんなの、親の良い子でないだけだ」
それから、悪い子になってしまった。
母を殴ったり蹴ったりするようになった。
あまり痛くなかったが、母は泣いてしまった。
さすがに母のない子は感心した。
「おまえは本当に悪い子だな」
それから、泣く女の背を撫でてやるのだった。
「心配するな。おれが守ってやるから」
