昔、小学校で映画の鑑賞会があった。
錦鯉の話で、粗筋は以下の通り。
主人公の少年の家は錦鯉を養殖していた。
稚魚が成長して美しい模様を備えれば
錦鯉として高く売れる。
しかし、つまらない模様の鯉は「テンプラ」と呼ばれ
売れないので天ぷらにされて食べられてしまう。
黒くてつまらない小さな鯉が
テンプラにされそうになった時
「責任持って飼うから、自分にくれ」
と少年は父親にせがむ。
そして、その日から少年は
この落ちこぼれの黒い鯉を飼うことになる。
途中、育てるための様々な苦労があるのだが････
ある日のこと、かなり大きくなった黒い鯉の背中に
一本の赤い筋が走っているのに少年は気づく。
暗闇を鋭いナイフで切り裂いたような真紅の一筋。
このテンプラになるはずだった黒い鯉は
やがて錦鯉の大きな品評会に出され
最優秀の評価を得ることになる。

いい話だなあ、と今でも思う。
