僕の妹はネズミに育てられたネズミ少女だ。
生まれてすぐ、妹はネズミにさらわれたのだ。
屋根裏に運ばれて、そこで大きくなった。
ちょうど僕の部屋の真上あたり。
そんなこと、僕、全然知らなかった。
大きなネズミがいるんだとばかり思ってた。
それは、ある朝のことだった。
ネズミ捕りに少女が挟まっていたのだ。
「チュー、チュー、チュー！」
ネズミそっくりの声で鳴くのだった。
父も母も、僕の妹に違いないと断言した。
なぜなら少女の顔が僕の顔にそっくりだったから。
「おまえ、僕の妹なんだってさ」
「チュー」
やはり人間の言葉は話せないのだった。
妹に服を着せておくだけでも大変だった。
無理に着せても、すぐに破ってしまうから。
ネズミ色の服なら、どうにか我慢してくれたけど。
なんでもかじる癖を直すのも苦労した。
家族全員、生傷だらけになったものだ。
立って歩かせるのにも時間がかかった。
食べ物を天井から吊り下げたりしたっけ。
でも、妹は確実に人間らしくなってきている。
少しずつだけど、でも本当に嬉しい。
最近、髪飾りなんかするようになった。
「なんか、女の子らしくなってきたよ」
「チュウ？」
まだ猫を見ると逃げ出してしまうけど。
おや、その妹がやってきた。
人間らしく微笑んでる。
おやすみのキスの時間だ。
「チュッ！」
