白痴はいつも太鼓を叩いていた。
近くにいれば必ず太鼓の音がした。
太鼓を叩いていなければ眠っているのだった。
きっと太鼓を叩く夢でも見ているのだろう。
いつも白痴はどこか旅していた。
太鼓が唯一、白痴の道連れだった。
白痴だからほとんど言葉は話せなかった。
その代り、太鼓で話をするのだった。
太鼓の音だけで意味が伝わるのだった。
鳥や獣とも話せるようであった。
風や雨の音とも合奏できるのだった。

太鼓の響きが大空に広がってゆく。
それだけでなぜか泣けてくるのだった。
まだ白痴は旅を続けているだろうか。
あの太鼓の響きが今でもまだ耳から離れない。

Idiots were always beating the drum.
I could hear the sound of the drum
whenever I was near him.
He was asleep unless it hit the drum.
I bet he is watching the dream
of hitting the drum as well.
Always idiot was traveling somewhere.
The drum was the only idiot 's companion.
Because he is idiot, he hardly spoken a word.
Instead he talked with the drum.
The meaning was transmitted
only by the sound of the drum.
He seemed to be able to talk with birds and beasts.
He could accompany the sound of wind and rain.
