その顔も幼く見えた。
でも、からだは違うと思った。

まず、得意のカードを使って遊んだ。
ポーカー、ばばぬき、さらに神経衰弱。
ことごとく負けてしまった。
勝ち誇る女の憎たらしいこと。
頭にきたので、チェスを申し込んだ。
「はい、チェックメイト！」
あっ、という間に詰まされてしまった。
高価なチェス盤を斧でたたき割った。
それでも怒りはおさまらなかった。
「あんた、碁はできるか？」
「ええ、少しだけ」
これはなかなかの熱戦だった。
だが、最後に大石が死んでしまった。
「････ありません」
碁に負けると人生に負けた気分になる。
もう立ち直れなかった。
黙って項垂れるしかなかった。
しばらくして、髪に女の指を感じた。
耳もとで女が囁くのだった。
「もっと楽しい遊びがあるはずよ」
ゆっくり頭を上げ、女の顔を見た。
震えるほど魅力的な笑顔だった。
なんだか、また負けそうな予感がした。
