老犬が猫のところにやって来た。
「わしに遊びの極意を教えてくれんかの」
猫は日向ぼっこをしていた。
「さてね。これでなかなか
遊びというのは奥が深くてね」
老犬は猫の隣に座った。
「わしは番犬を長年やっておってな、
つくづくいやんなっちまった」
猫はあくびをする。
「まあ、わからんでもないがね」
老犬はため息をつく。
「ご主人を遊ばせるのが、わしの仕事だったとはの」
猫は目を閉じる。
「遊びたかったら、まず夢を見なくちゃ」
老犬も目を閉じる。
「わしが見るのは、いつも番犬の夢じゃよ」
猫は眠ってしまった。
老犬は眠れなかった。
それで仕方なく眠る猫の隣で番をするのだった。
「やれやれ」

The Essence of Play
An old dog came to a cat.
"Can you tell me the essence of play?"
The cat was basking in the sun.
"Sorry, play is pretty deep."
The old dog sat next to the cat.
"I used to be my home dog for many years,
but I was completely hated."
The cat yawned.
"Well, I have some sympathy for you."
The old dog sighed.
"Having my landlord to play was my job."
The cat closed her eyes.
"If you want to play, you must first have a dream."
The old dog also closed his eyes.
"What I see is a dream
that always keeps the house on hold."
The cat has fallen asleep.
The old dog could not sleep.
So he had no choice but to take a turn
next to the sleeping cat.
"I'm tired."
