秋の日

虫の音(ね)　途絶(と　だ)え
　葉は枯れ落ち

　　　もう陽は
　　　　高く昇らない

木枯(こ　が)らしに　うち震(ふる)え
　猫背の犬となり

　　　雨降れば　ひたすら
　　　　逃げる算段(さんだん)ばかりなり

このまま
　朽(く)ち果(は)つる前に

　　　われら　なにを語りし
　　　　なにを残せし

ああ　しかし
　うやむやに時は過ぎ

　　　井戸はすたれど
　　　　秋の日はつるべ落とし

Autumn's Day

The sound of insects ceased
Leaves are withered

The sun will not rise so high

Trembling in the nipping wind of winter
I become a dog with a backstroke
And only rush to escape if it rains.

Before decaying as it is
What should we tell and what should we leave?

Oh but
The time passed while I did not know

Wells are gone but on autumn days
A bucket is so fast that it falls into a well
