必ず誰かがやらねばならない仕事がある。
それをすることが不快を伴うだけでなく
損失や苦痛、生命の危険すらあったりする。
いやいやながらにせよ、代償を求めるにせよ
その仕事を引き受けてくれる人たちがいる。
もしその人たちがいなかったら、それを
他の誰かが代わりにやらねばならない。
それは私であるかもしれず、または
あなたでなければならないかもしれない。
だからその人たちに感謝しなければならない
などと、良識的に言いたいわけではない。
後ろめたいほど申しわけないのであって
感謝するだけで済む問題ではないのだから。
