寝室の窓から近所の幼い女の子が侵入。
窓際に置いてあったゴルフボールを拾い上げる。
私もそれを検分する。
ゴルフボールにしては意外と重い。
どうやら開いた窓から転がり込んだらしい。
「ボールが見つかって良かったね」
外へ戻る女の子を見送る。
掃き出し窓から裏庭へ顔を出してみる。
なぜか重機が庭木を次々と伐採している。
倒れそうな塀の交換工事をするため
庭木の伐採を許可したのは私だ。
それは必要だったからだが
不必要な伐採までしているような気がする。
裏庭の景観が殺伐としてしまった。
まずい。もう手遅れだ。
これは責任問題になってしまうぞ。
Felling Garden Trees
A young girl from the neighborhood
invaded through the bedroom window.
She picked up a golf ball that was near the window.
I also inspected it.
Surprisingly heavy for a golf ball.
This apparently rolled out of the open window.
"You're glad you found your ball."
I saw the girl back out.
I look out to the backyard
through the sweep windows.
For some reason,
heavy equipment is cutting down garden trees
one after another.
I was allowed to cut down the garden
to replace the fallen fence.
It's because we needed it,
but they feel like they are cutting unnecessary.
The landscape of the backyard has been killed.
Unpalatable. It's too late.
This is going to be my responsibility.
