野球部の監督が悩んでいる。
大会の開催日が迫っているというのに
部員たちを練習させるスペースがないのだ。
狭い正方形の屋上グラウンドは
テニス部と陸上部が半分ずつ使っている。
なるほど、これでは走り込みもできない。
すぐ隣に工事中の新校舎があった。
そこに平らな部分がある。
ここを使わせてもらうことに監督は決めた。
ところが、問題あり。
そこに立つと不安定で、足場が揺れながら沈む。
調べてみると、新校舎は割り箸でできていた。
旧校舎に寄り添い、支えられて建っていたのだ。
工事現場の若い作業員が教えてくれた。
「揺れるけど、意外に丈夫ですよ」
応急処置を施したそうだが、不安でならない。
透明チューブのような縦通路を通り抜け
地上に降り立ち、そのまま帰宅した。
同じ学校を卒業した兄に尋ねてみる。
「ああ、あれ？ あれは大丈夫だよ」
まるで問題にしていない様子。
それでも不安がぬぐえない。
Disposable Chopsticks School Building
The baseball coach is worried.
There is no space for the members to practice
even though the tournament is approaching.
The narrow square rooftop ground
is used by half each by the tennis club
and the track and field club.
He knew, they couldn't even run.
There was a new school building
under construction next to it.
There is a flat part there.
He decided to use this.
However, there is a problem.
It is unstable when standing there,
and the scaffold sways while sinking.
He checked
and found out that the new school building
was made of disposable chopsticks.
It was built close to
and supported by the old school building.
A young worker on the construction site taught him.
"It shakes, but it's surprisingly strong."
He seems to have given first aid, but he is anxious.
He went through
a transparent tube-like vertical passage,
landed on the ground, and returned home.
He asks his brother who graduated
from the same school.
"Oh, that? That's fine."
His brother doesn't seem to have a problem.
Still he is anxious.
