小さなトトカ湾に巨大な氷山が漂着した。
それはまるで白い
海面下の大きさが想像された。
「かまうな。そのうちとける」
それが村人たちの意見だった。
航行には邪魔だが別に問題なかろう。
「ちょっと待ってください」
若い彫刻家が反論する。
「あそこには氷の女神が埋まっています。
あなたがたには見えないのですか？」
残念ながら村人たちには見えなかった。
それでも若者は諦めない。
「急いで女神を救い出しましょう！」
村人たちは相手にしない。
仕方ないので若者は
たったひとりで氷山を彫り始めた。
「まあいいか。それほど迷惑でもないし」
村人たちは傍観することにした。
朝から槌の音が絶えなかった。
かなり深い部分に埋まっているのだろう。
なかなか氷の女神は現れなかった。
いく日もいく日もいく日も
槌音が休みなくトトカ湾に響いた。
氷山はだんだん小さくなっていった。
ある朝、ついに氷の女神が現れた。
それはそれは美しい姿であった。
神々しいまなざし、豊かなほほえみ。
若い彫刻家は正しかったのだ。
嬉しさのあまり若者は泣いてしまった。
だが、それは一瞬なのだった。
暖かな朝の光を浴び
美しい氷の女神はとけてしまった。
やがて村人たちが家々から出てきた。
あくびをしながら苦笑する。
「結局、みんなとけちゃったな」
村人たちの意見も正しかったのだ。
若者はすっかり疲れ果て
いまにも溺れそうだ。
Iceberg in Totoka Bay
A huge iceberg was struck in the small Totoka Bay.
It looked like a white sailing ship.
The size under the sea surface was imagined.
"Let it go, it will melt in a while."
That was the opinion of the villagers.
It is an obstacle to navigation,
but it will not be a problem separately.
"One moment, please."
A young sculptor refutes.
"The goddess of ice is buried there,
are not you seeing her?"
Unfortunately the villagers did not see anything.
Still young people do not give up.
"Let's quickly rescue the goddess!"
The villagers do not opponate them.
As there was no choice,
the young man carved the iceberg alone by himself.
"Oh well, it's not too annoying."
The villagers decided to stare by him.
From the morning
the sound of the hammer has not persisted.
It is probably being buried in a considerably deep part.
The ice goddess did not appear easily.
The harp echoed in Totoka Bay
without breaks as the days passed.
The iceberg gradually became smaller.
One morning, the goddess of ice appeared at last.
That was a beautiful figure.
A godly gaze, a rich smile.
The young sculptor was right.
The young man did not like much pleasure.
But it was a moment.
In the warm morning light
the beautiful ice goddess has melted.
Soon the villagers came out of the houses.
While yawning they smile bitterly.
"After all, everyone has melted."
The opinions of the villagers were correct.
Young people are all exhausted and are likely to drown.
