近所のホームセンターで女子高生の球根を買った。
ほんの冗談のつもりだった。
だから、バケツに水を入れて球根を固定しておいたら
本当に女子高生が生えてきたのには驚いてしまった。
水栽培のヒト型観葉植物である。
品種改良とか遺伝子組み換えとか
いわゆるバイオテクノロジーの進歩は凄まじい。
それらしい葉っぱの組み合わせなのだが
有名な私立高校の制服まで身に着けている。
さすがに喋ることはできない。
外観が少女に似ている植物に過ぎないのだ。
ただし、触れると多少は動く。
たとえば、両腕に相当する部分が正面に寄ってくる。
顔の部分も微妙に動いて、表情が変わる。
オジギソウと同じ原理らしい。
生長しても等身大までにはならず
せいぜい半身大よりちょっと高くなる程度。
もともとはタマネギだったかキャベツだったか
とにかく野菜なので、食べることもできる。
しかし、さすがにここまで育ててしまうと
愛着が湧き、とても食用にはできない。
かと言って、そのうち枯れるだろうし
いつまでも愛らしい形を留めているわけでもない。
鑑賞しながら、ため息が出る。
恥ずかしくて、とても公表できないが
もう命名までしてある。
まったく悩ましいものを買ってしまったものだ。
