右目のすぐ下、頬骨のあたりを指先で擦ると
かすかに耳鳴りが聞こえる。
アブラゼミの鳴き声「ミーン」の中間部分。
ラジオの放送終了後の音にも似ている。
これに気づいたのは、ごく最近のこと。
上から押さえただけでは聞こえない。
左の頬骨を擦っても聞こえない。
なぜか右の頬骨の周辺を擦り続けていると
右耳から聞こえ続けるのである。
なぜなのだろう。
知覚神経の混線のようなものだろうか。
それとも、セミと関係あるのだろうか。
音が出る仕組みを調べるために
腹部を割って中身を覗いたり
夏休みの自由研究の宿題で
胸部に虫ピンを刺して標本にしたり
なんとなくコンクリート塀の壁面に
頭部を押し付けたまま歩いて削ったり
いかにも子どもがやりそうな
そのようなことをした記憶は全然ない。
だから、よくわからないけど
少なくともセミのたたりではないと思う。

Cicada Curse
When I rub my fingertips
around my cheekbone just below my right eye,
I can hear a slight tinnitus.
The middle part of the brown cicada's bark "meeen."
It is similar to the sound after the radio broadcast ends.
I noticed this very recently.
It cannot be heard just by pressing from above.
I can't hear it even if I rub the left cheekbone.
If for some reason
I keep rubbing around the right cheekbone,
I can hear it from the right ear.
Why?
Is it like a crossing of sensory nerves?
Or is it related to Cicada?
To find out how the sound is produced,
break the cicada's abdomen and look inside.
For example,
for a free study homework during the summer vacation,
a pin is inserted into the cicada's chest
to make a specimen.
Somehow walking with the cicada's head pressed
against the wall of the concrete fence and shaving it.
There is no memory of such a thing
that a child is likely to do.
So I'm not sure,
but at least I don't think it's a cicada curse.
