子どもの頃、女の子と遊んでいた。
目が大きくて、口が小さくて、髪が長かった。
見上げる笑顔が可愛らしかった。
ふたり、色々なことをして遊んだ。
ただし、いつも家の中に閉じこもって。
なぜか家の外では遊ばないのだった。
たとえば色紙で鶴を折って、それを飛ばす。
そのうち飽きると、その鶴を壊してしまう。
「これよりを拷問をおこなう」
「はい、魔王さま」
「まず鶴の腹を縦に裂くのだ」
「はい、魔王さま」
もちろん折り鶴の腹の中は空っぼ。
お医者さんごっこも憶えてる。
「これより診察をおこなう」
「はい、先生」
「では、まずスカートを脱いで」
「はい、先生」
それから看護婦さんごっこもやった。
「これから注射をします」
「はい、看護婦さん」
「では、まずお尻を出しなさい」
「はい、看護婦さん」
ここから先は、よく憶えていない。
ふたり並んで窓から外を眺めた。
山の上の空が赤紫色に焼けていた。
この時は何も喋らなかったと思う。
それにしても
あの子は誰だったのだろう。
どうしても名前が思い出せない。
なぜか忘れた。
近所の子だ、と思っていた。
でも、そんな子は近所にいなかった。
古いアルバムを開いても見つからない。
母に尋ねてみても知らないと言う。
そんな女の子、見たことないと言うのだ。
「おまえはいつも、ひとりで遊んでいたよ」
そんなはずはない。
確かにあの子はいたんだ。
いなかったはずはない。
絶対に、絶対にいた。
ふたり、あんなに楽しかったのだから。
A Neighboring Girl
When I was a kid, I was playing with a girl.
She had big eyes, a small mouth, and long hair.
Her smile looking up was cute.
We did a lot of things and played.
