バス停で待っていた。
もちろん、バスを。
でも途中で、どうでもよくなってしまった。
私は双子の姉妹に続いて列に並んでいた。
それがじつにおかしな姉妹なのだった。
顔も髪型も服装もそっくりなのは、まあいい。
なにしろ双子なのだから。
ふたりは顔を見合わせ、黙ったまま
せわしなく手を振ったり、首をかしげたりする。
（狂っているのだろうか？）
しかし、すぐに私は気づいた。
彼女たちは手話をしていたのだ。
見事な技術だ、と感心しながら見ていた。
見続けていても飽きないのだった。
もっとも話の内容は全然わからないが････
時々、彼女たちは笑った。
普通の女の子のように笑った。
声を出せないわけでもないのだ。
おそらく耳に障害でもあるのだろう。
その笑顔を見ていると飽きなかった。
時間が止まって欲しいくらいだった。
バスなんか来なければいい、と思った。
「なに見てんのよ。さっきからずっと」
その声は完壁な二重唱だった。
きれいに並んだ四つの瞳と二つの唇。
私はあわてて手で喉を押さえ
首を大きく横に振った。
突然、声が出なくなってしまったのだ。

I was waiting at the bus stop.
