どうやら僕はその店でアルバイトをしているようなのだ。
その店というのは食堂でもあるらしい喫茶店。
仕事はウエーターをメインとした雑用係。
いきさつの詳細は不明だが
なぜかそのような設定になっている。
さて、お話である。
ひとり、なにやらマナーの悪いお客さんがいて
その人がお盆というかトレーをひどく汚してしまった。
その行為を店長というかマスターが非難するのだが
結局、そのお客さんとの交渉は決裂して終わる。
すると、マスターはそのトレーをぞんざいに拭き
汚れを残したままどこそこへ返してこい、と僕に命ずる。
ということは、そのトレーは借り物だったわけだが
返却する当人の僕としては承服しかねる。
「とんでもありません。
そんなこと、とてもではありませんが、できません」
理屈としてはもっともな判断なのかもしれないが
明らかに食い違う意見を持つであろう両者の間に入って
大いなる段差を僕がまともに受けるわけにはいかない。
「いいから、そのまま返してこい」
「いいえ、なりません」
そこへ第三者が口を出し、僕の味方をしてくれる。
「理屈じゃねえよ。気持ちが大事なんだよ」
それが店員なのかお客さんなのか判然としないが
その人の言う通りだ、と僕は思う。
The Store
Apparently, I work part-time at the store.
The shop is a cafe that seems to be a dining room.
My job is a choreographer with a waiter as the main.

A third party speaks out there and helps me.

I'm not sure if it's a clerk or a customer,
but I think that's exactly what he says.
