僕が塾から帰宅したら
小学生の妹が居間でドラムを叩いていた。
「ただいま」
普段、そんな挨拶などしない。
きっと驚いたからだろう。
「おかえり」
スティックを鮮やかに空中で回転させ
最後にドタタンと叩き、妹は演奏を中断した。
「なにしてんだ？」
「見ればわかるでしょ」
「どうしてドラムセットが家にあるわけ？」
「あたしが買ったの」
「どうしておまえがドラム叩けるわけ？」
「夜のアルバイトでドラマーやってたから」
まだまだ尋ねたいことはいっぱいあった。
だが、いつまでも尋ね続けることになりそうな気がして
このあたりでやめることにした。
妹は再びドコドコバシャバシャやり始めた。
悔しいけど、なかなかうまいものだ。
なかなかというよりかなりというか、すごく上手だ。

夜のアルバイトとはいかなる内容のものなのか
演奏が終わったら勇気を出して妹に尋ねてみよう
と僕は決意しないわけにはいかなかった。

Drummer Sister
When I came home from private school,
my younger sister, a primary school student,
was playing drums in the living room.
"I'm home."
I usually don't say such greetings.
It is probably because I was surprised.
"Welcome back."
My sister vividly rotated the stick in the air
and struck it to the end, stopping the performance.
"What are you doing?"
"You can see if you look."
"Why is the drum set at home?"
"I bought it."
"Why can you beat the drums?"
"Because I did a drummer at a part-time job at night."
There were a lot of things I still wanted to ask.
However, I felt that I would be asking forever,
and I decided to give up on this.
My sister started to play again.
Disappointing, but she is quite good.
Rather than being quite good, it is extremely good.

I had no choice but to decide
what kind of content the part-time job was at night
and to give courage and ask my sister
when her performance was over.
