眩暈と吐き気のする深夜の国道。
ドブのように黒いコーヒーを飲みながら
俺は会社の営業用車を運転していた。
死にそうなほど瞼が重い。
非常識な超過勤務。
痛みと疲労と睡眠不足。
一瞬の空白。
そして、衝撃があった。
俺は、あわててブレーキを踏む。
通り過ぎたはずの後方のアスファルトの上に
なにか黒っぽい物体が見える。
ドアを開け、車道に降り立つ。
動けずに立ちすくんでいると
その黒い物体がムクムクと起き上がった。
それは人影のようにも見える。
が、人にしては、あまりにも形が崩れていた。
這い上がり、立ち上がり、そして
その黒い影が、こっちへ向かって来る。
俺は、全身に悪寒を感じた。
それは純粋な恐怖だった。
この世のものとは思えぬ異形。
得体の知れぬ怪物。
それが近づいてくる。
さらに近づく。
（危険だ！）
俺は運転席に戻る。
しっかりドアを閉める余裕もない。
ペダルを踏む。
動かない。
エンジンが止まっている。
心臓まで止まりそうだった。
なんとか発進させる。
後方確認。
（うわっ！）
危なかった。
すぐ背後に迫っていた。
アクセルを踏む。
やがて視界から見えなくなった。
（なんなんだ、あれは？）
まだ心臓がドキドキしている。
赤信号の交差点で止まる。
バックミラーを覗く。
（････まさか！）
追われていた。
異形の影が小さく見える。
そして、それが徐々に大きくなる。
信号を無視して発進。
追ってくる。
まだ追ってくる。
どこまでも追ってくる。
いくつもの交差点を突っ切る。
気づいた時には
視界いっぱいに大型トラックが迫っていた。
すべての動きが緩慢に見える。
もう逃れられない。
死を覚悟した。
その刹那、俺は見た。
迫りくる大型トラックの運転席にいるのも
やはり異形の影なのだった。

Variant's Shadow
Night highway with dizziness and nausea.
While drinking black coffee like a groove,
I was driving a company sales car.
The eyelids are heavy enough to die.
Insane overtime work.
Pain and fatigue and lack of sleep.

And there was shock.
I stepped on the brake in a hurry.
I can see somewhat dark objects on the asphalt
behind that should have passed by.
I open the door and get off the road.
As I was standing still without moving,
the black object got up.
It looks like a person's shadow.
But, if it is a person, the shape was too collapsed.
It crawls up, stands up,
and its black shadow comes over here.
I felt chilliness throughout my body.
It was pure fear.
A variant that can not be thought of
as the one of this world.
An unknown monster.
That comes closer.
It gets closer.
It's dangerous!
I return to the driver 's seat.
I can not afford to close the door tightly.
Step on the pedal.
It does not move.
The engine is stopped.
My heart seemed to stop.
I managed to start.
Backward confirmation.
Wow!
It was dangerous.
It was just behind me.
Step on the accelerator.
Eventually it came out of sight.
What is that?
My heart is still pounding.
I stop the car at the red light intersection.
I look into the rearview mirror.
No way!
I was being chased.
Variant's shadow looks small.
And it gradually becomes big.
Ignore the signal and start off.
That follows me.
It still follows me.
It follows me everywhere.
I will go through a number of intersections.
When noticing, a large truck was approaching full of sight.
All movements look slow.
I can not get away anymore.
I was prepared for death.
That moment, I saw.
