僕は砂浜の海岸線すれすれに穴を掘り
まぬけな魚が落ちてくるのを待っていた。
そこへ幼なじみの歯医者がやってきた。
「どれどれ、口を大きく開けてごらん」
彼は根っからの歯医者である。
歯医者でない彼を僕は知らない。
僕は、素直に口を開けてやり、
彼に歯をよく見せてやる。
「よしよし。ここだ、ここ」
彼は、耳のすぐ下に手をかけると
不気味な音を立て、僕のアゴをはずした。
それを砂浜に掘られた穴に投げ捨てるや
手提げカバンから鋼鉄のアゴを素早く取り出す。
生身のアゴがはずれた部分に鋼鉄のそれを合わせ
耳の下あたりにボルトを差し込む。
さらにスパナを使ってナットを締める。
「うんうん。ピッタリだ」
なにがピッタリなのか、僕にはよくわからない。
そんなことをされているうちに
いつの間にか足もとに潮が満ちてきていた。
まぬけな魚が一匹、砂浜の穴に落ちていて
捨てられた僕のアゴを枕に眠っている。
Chin Pillow
I dug a hole in the sandy shoreline
and waited for a stupid fish to fall.
A dental doctor of my childhood friend came there.
"Let's see, please open your mouth wide."
He is an innate dentist.
I do not know him who is not a dentist.
I open my mouth openly
and show him my teeth well.
"Okay, good, here, here."
He put his hand just below my ear
and made a weird noise, removing my jaw.
He throws it into the hole dug in the beach
and quickly takes out the steel jaw from the handbag.
He matches that of the steel to the part
where the real jaw is off,
and inserts the bolt under the ear.
In addition he uses a wrench to tighten the nut.
"Yeah yeah, it's perfect."
I am not sure what perfect is.
While I was doing such a thing,
the tide was filling at my feet at once.
A stupid fish is falling in a hole in a sandy beach,
sleeping with my abandoned chin as a pillow.
