洞窟を利用して築かれた寺院がある。
奥の壁には古代文字らしきものが刻まれ、
ところどころに凹みがあり、
何事か意味のありそうな気配を漂わせつつ
様々な供え物がはめ込まれている。
ある物は猿のヘソの緒であったり、
また別のある物は髪飾りであったりする。
それがビールの空き缶であったりするのは
おそらく心ない観光客の仕業であろう。
だが、たとえ高徳の僧侶であろうとも
それら供え物を差し替えること
信者の掟として許されていない。
腐れば腐ったで
盗まれれば盗まれたで
凹みから転がり落ちれば転がり落ちたで
なんらかの象徴であり、
受け入れるべき運命である、と言う。
信者は理解せずとも受け入れねばならぬ。
この寺院もいつか埋もれるであろう。
しかしながら、それもまたやはり
なんらかの象徴であり、
受け入れるべき運命なのである。
