森の扉

大きな森の端っこに小さな木の扉があった。
犯罪者の指紋みたいな美しい木目。

呼び鈴はなかった。
おれはノックしてみた。

「どちら様でしょうか？」
かわいらしい声であった。

「狼ですが」
扉の向こうでなにか倒れたような音がした。

「狼ですって？」
「はい。狼です」

扉の向こうで悲鳴があがった。

「扉を開けてください。空腹なんです」
「お願い。入らないで。食べないで」

扉はなかなか丈夫にできていた。
爪も牙も鼻息も役に立たなかった。

夕暮れが訪れようとしていた。

しかたがない。
今夜は扉の前で眠ろう。

おれはこれでも礼儀正しい狼なのだ。

わざわざ扉なんか通ろうとさえしなければ　
森の中に入るのはたやすいことだ。

森の扉の両端には別段　
高い柵や塀があるわけではないのだから。

The Forest Door

There was a small wooden door
at the edge of the big forest.

Beautiful wood grain like criminal fingerprints.

There was no doorbell.
I tried knocking.

"May I ask who's calling?"
It was a cute voice.

"I am a wolf."
There was a sound like something fell over the door.

"You are a wolf?"
"Yes, I am a wolf."

There was a scream over the door.

"Open the door, I am hungry."
"Please do not enter, please do not eat."

The door was quite durable.
Nails, fangs and sniffs were useless.

Dusk was about to come.

It can not be helped.
I will sleep in front of the door tonight.

I am a polite wolf indeed.

It is easy to enter the woods
without having to bother passing through the door.

Because there are no separate fences or walls
at both ends of the forest door.
