よく思い出せないのだけれども
どこかでなにかのイベントがあったのだ。
それが終わって家に帰らなければならないのに
こんなところで僕は雑誌なんか読んでる。
こんなところはバス停の前で、その証拠のように
見知らぬ女の子が僕の肩を揺すって問う。
「あなたトケタの方ですよね。
トケタへ帰るには、このバスでいいのですか？」
そう問われてみると、自然に記憶がよみがえり
自信を持って次のように断言できた。
「ええ、そうです。
ソコモ駅行きのバスなら、間違いありません」
それで彼女は安心したらしく笑顔を浮かべ
辛抱強く待っていてくれたらしい停車中のバスに乗る。
渡りに船とばかりに僕も続いて乗る。
乗車券について運転手に尋ねると
「途中乗車の場合、中央で受け取ってください」
くたびれた老婆が隠すように立っていたが
自動発行機の口から突き出ていた白いベロを引き抜く。
最後尾の座席に腰を下ろせば、やれやれである。
ところが、小学校から下校途中であろう男の子が
馴れ馴れしく声を掛けてくる。
「おい。そんなこと許されると思っているのか」
見知らぬ大人にどういうつもりか、と呆れたが
じつは僕を挟んで反対側の同級生に話しかけたのだ。
しかし、そのように思えないこともない状況を利用して
見知らぬ大人をからかっていないとも限らない。
（なにしろ、近頃の子どもは油断ならないからな）
自作自演。
Take the Bus Home
I can't remember it well,
but there was some event somewhere.
I have to go home after that,
but I'm reading a magazine like this.
In a place like this, in front of the bus stop,
a strange girl shakes my shoulder
and asks as evidence.
"You're a Toketa resident, right?
Is it okay to use this bus to return to Toketa?"
When asked that,
I was able to naturally recall my memory
and confidently made the following statement.
"Yes, that's right.
There is no doubt
if it is a bus bound for Sokomo Station."
So she smiled with peace of mind
and took the parked bus
that seemed to be patiently waiting.
Just as a crossing boat, I continue to ride.
When I asked the driver about the ticket,
"If you got on the bus on the way,
please pick it up at the center."
A tired old woman stood to hide it,
but I pulled out the white tongue sticking out
of the mouth of the automatic issuing machine.
When I sit down in the back seat, I feel calm.
However, a boy,
who may be on his way from elementary school,
speaks to me in a familiar manner.
"Hey. Do you think you can do that?"
I was wondering what he meant to a stranger,
but he was speaking to his classmate
on the other side of me.
But he may be making fun of a strange adult
by taking advantage of a situation
that doesn't seem like that.
(Anyway, children these days aren't alert.)
