僕たちは下校するつもりだった。
学校の玄関で靴を履こうとしていた。
「裏口から出た方がいいかもしれないぞ」
一緒にいた部活の先輩が言う。
見ると、床下から水があふれ出して
黒いヘビの群のように出口へ向かっている。
「なんだなんだ、これは」
洪水であろうか。
あわてて正面玄関から外に出る。
校庭はなく、そのまま道路になっている。
近所の商店街の人たちが集団清掃をしている。
そう見えたのだが、じつは道路にまで水があふれ
それを皆でなんとかしようとしていたのだった。
川が氾濫したのか、水道管でも破裂したのだろう。
ともかく、ここから一刻も早く脱出しなければ。
増え続ける水たまりを避けようとして
カエルのようにジャンプしながら先輩たちと進む。
帰宅する方角とは逆へ向かっているようだが
この状況ではどうにも仕方がない。
だんだん乾いている場所が少なくなってきた。
僕たちは派手に水をはねながら進む。
まだ靴の中まで水で濡れていないのが
せめてもの幸いである。

The Beginning of the Flood
We were going to leave school.
I was trying to put on my shoes
at the entrance of the school.
"It might be better to get out of the back door."
A senior member of the club that I was with says.
When I see it,
water overflows from under the floor
and heads toward the exit
like a group of black snakes.
"What is this?"
Is it a flood?
I hurriedly went out from the front door.
There is no schoolyard and it is a road as it is.
People in the neighborhood shopping district
are doing group cleaning.
It looked like that,
but in fact the road was flooded
and everyone was trying to get rid of it.
Perhaps the river was flooded
or the water pipe ruptured.
Anyway, I have to escape from here
as soon as possible.
I jump with my seniors, jumping like a frog,
trying to avoid the ever-growing puddle.
It seems that
the direction is the opposite of going home,
but in this situation it can't be helped.
There are fewer places that are dry.
We proceed while splashing water
in a flashy manner.
Fortunately,
the shoes haven't been wet with water yet.
