今まさに自宅でベッドインせんとする矢先、
外出していたはずの奥さんが帰宅する。
幸いなことに旦那はナイトキャップを頭に載せていた。
いかにもこれから眠るつもりのように見える。
少なくとも愛人と寝るムードではない。
奥さんは旦那のナイトキャップを手に取る。
頭の上にでもなければキャップとは思えない形状。
それは刺繍用の丸いフレームに似ており
触角のようなノズルが2本伸びている。
ノズルには「給水用」と表示されたラベルが貼ってある。
「睡眠中に頭が乾燥するのを防ぐのさ」
まるで言い訳のように旦那が説明する。
「そのまま乾燥させておけばいいのに」
そのように言いたそうな奥さんの眼差し。
逃げたのか、妄想だったのか
いつの間にか愛人の姿は消えている。

Water Supply Cap
I feel like I'm watching a movie.
Or I seem to be acting as an actor.
There is an old couple
and the husband is having an affair with a young woman.
Or he is about to flirt.
His wife who should have been out is returning home
just before she is about to bed in at home.
Fortunately, the husband had a nightcap on his head.
It looks like he's going to sleep.
At least not in the mood to sleep with a mistress.
His wife picks up her husband's nightcap.
It's a shape that no one can think of as a cap
unless it's on the head.
It resembles a round frame for embroidery,
with two antenna-like nozzles extending out.
The nozzle has a label that says "For water supply."
"Prevents my head from drying out during sleep."
He explains like an excuse.
"I wish I could just dry it."
The gaze of his wife who seems to have said that.
Whether it was a runaway or a delusion,
the mistress disappeared before I knew it.
