将棋のプロ棋戦が行われている。
それを観戦しているところ。
視界全体が白黒なのは
古い実況中継の録画であろうか。
対戦している一人、眼鏡をかけた中年棋士が
なにやら不審な動作を始める。
こちらは彼の背中が見える位置なので
実際なにをしているのか把握するのは難しい。
羽織の襟をはだけ、盤上に身を乗り出し
なにかしきりに片腕を動かしている。
脇腹の垢を掻き落としている気配。
どうやら必死に験を担いでいる様子。
場面の端に立会人の老棋士の横顔も見えるが
彼は笑いを堪えきれずに笑っている。
解説会の司会者と解説者も笑っている。
「いやですね。これは恥ずかしいですね」
「まったく、勝負以前の問題。困ったものです」
昔のプロ棋士とはこんなものなのか
などと思いながら私も笑う。
なぜか対戦相手の顔は見えない。

Watching a Game
A professional shogi tournament is being held.
I'm watching it.
Is it a recording of an old live broadcast that
the entire field of view is black and white?
One of the opponents,
a middle-aged player wearing glasses,
begins to move suspiciously.
I can see his back, so it's hard to figure out
what he's actually doing.
He bares his haori collar, leans over the board,
and moves one arm steadily.
He seems to be scraping off the dirt on his side.
Apparently he is desperately taking on the test.
I can see the profile of the witness old shogi player
at the edge of the scene,
but he is laughing uncontrollably.
The moderator and commentator of the commentary
are also laughing.
"No. This is embarrassing."
"It's a problem before the game. It's a problem."
I laugh while wondering what
an old professional shogi player was like.
For some reason I can't see his opponent's face.
