その男はやってくる。
自転車に乗ってやってくる。
演歌であるか、民謡であるか
ともかく大きな声で歌いながら。
私は彼を呼び止めた。
「ちょっと尋ねたいことがあるんだがね」
「はい、なんでしょう？」
素直というか、いかにも性格が良さそう。
「君がこう歌ってきて、一旦ここで途切れて
また歌い始める時に高くなるじゃないか」
「さて、なんのことでしょう？」
「いや。つまりだね、君の歌い方について････」
音符のない楽譜を思い浮かべながら問うのだが
どうやら彼にはその楽譜が見えないようだ。
「ええ、そうなんですよね」
諦めかけていると、私の連れの女が同意する。
「途切れさせずに続けて歌うとしたら
いったいどうなるんでしょうね」
はて、そんな問いかけをするつもりだったか。
記憶が薄れ、どうにも心もとない。

Singing Bike Rider
The man is coming.
He comes on a bicycle.

he sings in a loud voice.
I stopped him.

He seems to have a good personality.
"You sing like this, it breaks here,
and when you start singing again, it gets higher."

I ask while thinking of a score without notes,
but apparently he can't see the score.
"Yes, that's right."
A woman with me agrees that she is about to give up.
"What would happen
if you continued to sing without interruption?"
Well, did I intend to ask such a question?
