村のはずれに池があった。
あまり大きくはなく、丸い池だった。
皆からレンズ池と呼ばれていた。
レンズ池の底はおそろしく深かった。
水は澄んでいるのに
覗いても水の底は見えないのだった。
不思議な池だった。
虫や魚は一匹もいなかった。
いつ見てもまったくいないのだ。
ここに鯉を放したことがある。
最初は水中を泳ぐ姿がよく見えた。
ただし、ちょっと大きすぎるような気がした。
鯉は深みへ潜ろうとしていた。
ますます大きく見えた。
どんどん深く潜ってゆく。
もう鱗の一枚一枚が見分けられた。
さらに水面いっぱいまで広がり
ついには縁からはみ出てしまった。
それから鯉の姿がぼやけ始めた。
やがて、なにも見えなくなった。
それでおしまい。
いつものレンズ池に戻っていた。
空のバケツを手に持ったまま
しばらくぼおっと立ちつくした。
まるで夢でも見ていたようだった。
それも、巨大なレンズを通して。

Lens Pond
There was a pond at the edge of the village.
It was not so big, it was a round pond.
Everyone was called Lens pond.
The bottom of Lens pond was dreadfully deep.
Although the water was clear, even if I peeked in,
the bottom of the water could not be seen.
It was a strange pond.
There was no insect or fish.
There is absolutely nothing to watch.
I have released a carp here.
At first I could see the swimming underwater.
However, it felt like it was a bit too big.
The carp was trying to deep into the depth.
It looked bigger and bigger.
Dive deeper and deeper.
It was already distinguished one by one scales.
It spread further to the surface of the water
and finally got out of the edge.
Then the appearance of the carp started to blur.
Eventually, nothing could be seen.
That's it.
I was back in the usual Lens pond.
I stood out for a while holding an empty bucket in my hand.
It seemed as if I was watching a dream.
Moreover, through a huge lens.
