老いたれど大御所の芸人が井戸を掘ろうとしている。
実際には井戸ではないのかもしれないが
ともかく近所の地面に穴を掘って何事かなさんとする。
その前に、家の中での粗暴なふるまいからして
近頃どうも怒りっぽくなっているような気がする。
芸人は地面の凹みにマッチで火をつけようとしているが
今日は風が強いため、なかなか火が移らないようだ。
それで家に戻り、太いロウソクを持って手助けに行く。
途中、道ばたに壊れた井戸掘り機が転がっていた。
他にも地面から抜いたものがいくつか転がっている。
「だめだ、そんなの。役にたたねえよ」
そう言ってロウソクを受け取ろうとしない。
しかたなくマッチの炎に芯を近づけてみるが
やはり風は強く、うまく燃え続けてくれない。
うまくいかないことをやり続けようとしている。
なるほど、老人が怒りっぽくなるわけだ。

Well Digging
An old but great entertainer is trying to dig a well.
It may not actually be a well,
but he digs a hole in the ground in the neighborhood
and makes something happen.
Before that, he seems to be getting angry these days,
with his rough behavior in the house.
The entertainer is trying to ignite a dent in the ground
with a match, but it seems that the fire does not move
easily due to the strong wind today.
So I go home and go to help him with a thick candle.
On the way, a broken well digger was rolling
on the side of the road.
There are some other things
that have been pulled out of the ground.
"No, that's right. It's useless."
With that said, he refuses to accept the candles.
I have no choice but to bring the core closer
to the flame of the match, but the wind is still strong a
nd it does not continue to burn well.
