祭りになると村人たちの気が触れる。
夜明け前から祭り
老若男女、犬猫牛も鶏も踊り出す。
酔っ払い、裸で
手を取りあって林に入る若い衆と娘。
祭りの夜、山の神に胎児を奉納する。
選ばれし妊婦を神社に一泊させるのだ。
この神は一眼の恐ろしい怪物。
母体に腕を突っ込み胎児を盗むとか。
妊婦は死ぬことも死なないこともある。
去年は男の子の姉が選ばれた。
幸いにも姉は死ななかった。
だが、男の子は疑問に思っている。
山の神が本当にいるかどうか。
姉の表情があまり暗くないので。
