森の木陰から吹き矢が飛んできて
少女の白いうなじに刺さった。

そのままの姿勢で倒れてしまった。
大切なバスケットも地面に転がった。
片手をあげたまま倒れたのが
ちょうど受身の形になって
彼女は顔を傷つけずにすんだ。

倒れても、少女には意識があった。
そういう種類の毒だったのだ。
森の木陰から少年が現れた。

少年は、倒れた少女は放っておき
地面に転がったバスケットを拾いあげると
掛けてあった布巾をめくった。
ああ、いや。
少女は泣きたくなった。
おいしいケーキが入っているのに。
生クリームたっぷりのケーキがいくつも。
ケーキを一切れ、少年は食べてみた。
うまかったので、もう一切れ食べてみた。
それから、さらにもう一切れ食べてみた。

少年はバスケットを投げ捨て
なにやら歌いながら森の奥へ消えた。
日が暮れて、やっと少女は起き上がり
バスケットの中を覗くのだった。
