伯父の家で夕食をいただいて、その帰り道。
姉と私と妹、三人で夜道を歩いていた。
父が事故で亡くなり、母は入院していた。
私たちは俯いたまま、黙って歩いた。
濡れたアスファルトに長靴の音が響く。
さっきまで冷たいみぞれが降っていたのだ。
この辺りには街灯が少なくて、怖かった。
坂道が曲がりながら闇の奥へ消えている。
背後で唸る音がして、光が闇を払った。
一台の自動車が近づき、そのまま遠ざかる。
三本の影が伸びて曲がって、すぐに消えた。
ますます闇が深くなったような気がした。
もうすぐ家に着く。
誰も待っていない家。
背後で足音がした。
誰かが坂道を下りてくる。
暗くてよく見えない。
どうも子どもらしい。
私たちを追い越しながら、男の子が叫ぶ。
「どうなる、どうなる、どうなる、････」
そのまま闇の奥へと消えていった。
「なんのことかしら？」
ぽつりと妹が呟いた。
「なにを返して欲しいのかしら？」
妹は気がふれたんだ、と私は思った。
「なに言ってんのよ」
姉も心配になったらしい。
「あの子はね、落ちる、って言ったのよ」
「うそよ。返して、って言ってた」
言葉を失い、私は立ち止まった。
なんて暗い坂道なんだろう。
なにも見えない。なにもわからない。
どうなるの、私たち。

Three Sisters
I got dinner at my uncle's home, and that way home.
Older sister and me and younger sisiter,
we were walking along the street at night.
My father died in the accident, my mother was hospitalized.
We walked silently while we were down.
The sound of boots echoed in the wet asphalt.
It was a cold sleet falling until a while ago.
There were few street lights around here and I was scared.
The sloping road is bending
and disappearing into the back of the darkness.
There was a groaning sound behind us,
and light paid the darkness.
A car approaches and moves away.
Three shadows stretched and bent and soon disappeared.
I felt that the darkness grew increasingly deep.
We will arrive home soon.
A house that nobody waits for.
I heard footsteps behind me.
Someone comes down a slope.
It is dark and can not be seen well.
It seems to be a child.
The boy screams while overtaking us.
"What'll become ? What'll become? What'll become?"
It faded into the back of the dark as it was.
"What is it?"
My younger sister muttered.
"What would that boy want me to return?"
I thought that my younger sister was crazy.
"What are you talking about?"
My older sister also seemed to be worried.
"That boy said it would fall."
"Lie, he told me to return."
I lost my words and I stopped.
What a dark slope it is.
I can not see anything. I do not know anything.
What will become of us?
