と思ったら、芽になって花が咲いた。
「でも、きれいな花で良かったわね」
花が咲いた朝の、妻の慰めの言葉だ。
髪の薄い中年オヤジの額に咲いた一輪の花。

だが、花を摘むわけにはいかんのだ。
ひとつ花を摘めば、ふたつ芽が出る。
ふたつ芽を摘めば、四つ芽が出る。
四つ花を摘めば、八つ芽が出る。
八つ芽を摘めば、････切りがない。
それが、この寄生花の怖いところ。
菊人形みたいになった奴を知っている。
まるで、歩く花壇だった。
股間にまで花が咲いていた。
美しいものであったが、苦しそうだった。
髪飾りの花、と諦めるしかなさそうだ。
額に咲いた花の香りに誘われ
やがて蝶や蜂が集まってきた。
こいつらを追い払ってはいけない。
うまく受粉してもらえたら、しめたもの。
やがて、花は枯れ、実がなるのだ。
この実を食べれば、もう花は咲かない。
ただし、実の中には
小さな種がたくさん入っている。
種まで飲み込むと、大変なことになる。
飲み込んだ種の数だけ、花が咲くのだ。
ところで、寄生花の実は
とてもおいしいのだそうだ。
そのあまりの旨さに
理性を失ってしまうほどに。
