その大道芸人は道端に寝転んでいた。

寝ていた芸人は片目だけ開け、おれたちを見上げた。

「銭なんかねえが、牛ガエルならあるぞ」
おれは、後ろ足が一本しかない獲物を示した。
「なんで片足なんだ？」

「面倒臭えな」
「おまえの見世物はなんだ？」
「口では説明できねえよ」
「じゃ、やれよ」
「しょうがねえな」
くたびれた芸人は起き上がり、よっこらと立ち上がった。
「さあさ、皆の衆。寄ってらっしゃい、見てらっしゃい。
見なきゃ損々、お代は見てのお帰りだよ」
急に元気になって口上を述べ始めた。
「ご覧の通り、様子のよろしい坊ちゃん方」
と、おれたちを紹介。
「たちまちに消してご覧に入れまする」
なにやら呪文を唱えると
ポン次や仲間の姿が本当に消えてしまった。
「すげえ！」
おれは興奮して叫んだ。
なぜか、おれは消えてない。
「おい。牛ガエルよこせ」
言われるまま、おれは芸人に食いかけを渡した。
「ありがとよ」
それから芸人は、おれに向かって呪文を唱えた。
