コテ茶

なつかしい叔父(おじ)から小包が届いた。

叔父は遠い外国で暮らしている。
貿易商なのに冒険家のつもりなのだ。

小包の中には手紙と異国風の布袋が入っていた。

手紙は短かった。
「コテ茶だよ。煎(せん)じて飲んでも知らないよ」

これだけ。
いかにも変人の叔父らしい。

コテ茶とは初耳だった。

まともなお茶ではあるまい。
麻薬みたいな幻覚作用があるのだろうか。

それらしきものが布袋の中に入っていた。
なるほど、コテッとした色をしている。

さっそく煎じてみる。
コテッとした色が濃くなった。

まさか死ぬことはあるまい。
恐る恐る飲んでみた。

まずい！　
ほとんど毒だ。

めまいがして視界がゆがみ、
キッチンの床に倒れてしまった。

気がつくと、なにやら窓の外が騒がしい。

いや、違う。
騒がしいから気がついたのだ。

かなりの数の群衆の声がする。

窓を開ける。
人の姿は見えない。

しかし、うるさいほどの声。

「この声はなんだ。幻聴か？」
自分の声が木霊(こだま)のように反響して聞こえる。

さらに遠い異国にいるはずの叔父の声まで聞こえてきた。

「おまえもコテ茶を飲んだな。
　まったく、うるさくてかなわんぞ」

Kote Tea

A parcel arrived from my nostalgic uncle.

My uncle lives in a distant foreign country.
Though he is a trader, he is an adventurer.

The parcel contained a letter
and an exotic cloth bag.

The letter was short.
"Kote tea. I don't know if you brew and drink it."
