冬山に銃声がとどろいた。
猟師が鹿を撃ったのだ。
ところが、じつに奇妙なのだ。
倒れていたのは鹿ではなかった。
鹿の皮衣を着た若い女なのだった。
猟師は途方に暮れてしまった。
どうすればいいかわからない。
とりあえず女を担いで自宅に戻った。
独り者なので家には誰もいない。
猟師は女の死体を土間に置いた。
それを忌々しそうに見下ろしながら
腕組みして考える。
（さて、こいつをどうしたものか）
結局、獣のやり方しか知らないのだった。
まず、鹿の皮衣をはぐ。
ゴロリと女の肉体があらわれた。
死んでいるのに生々しい。
なぜか銃弾の跡が見つからないのだった。
次に、猟師は包丁で女の腹を裂いた。
おびただしく溢れる鮮血。
そして、はらわたを手早く抜き取る。
さすがに慣れた手つき。
続いて、鉈で首を切り落とした。
女の生首が土間の端まで転がり、
うらめしそうな顔を猟師に向ける。
さらに、両腕を肩から切断。
両脚も付け根から断ち切った。
流れ出た血で地面が黒く汚れ、
血だまりに猟師の汗がボトボト垂れた。
最後に猟師は、女の肉を鍋で煮て喰った。
（これは、うまい！）
猟師は感心する。
（鹿の肉より、ずっとうまいわい）
やがて、季節は春になった。
雪がとけ、山菜が顔を出し始めた。
猟師の家にも春が訪れた。
ある朝、猟師は体の異変に気がついた。
なにやら頭に生えてきたのだ。
それは、まるで
鹿の角のようにも見えるのだった。
