それはまるで映画を観ているような感じなのだ。
私は映画館の観客なのか、あるいは
その映画の登場人物なのか、判然としない。
いわゆる洋画。
素敵なおじさま風の白髪の老人と
快活で魅力的な若い女。
ふたりはあたかも恋人のように振る舞い
実際、夫婦か恋人であるらしい。
じゃれる猫のように会話やふれあいを楽しみ
老人の弾くピアノの音色に若い女はうっとりする。
この舞台となる家には、なぜか
ハンサムな若い男が同居している。
親密なふたりをからかったり
挑発的に腰を振ってみせたりもするが
老人も女も冗談としか受け取らず、平気で笑っている。
彼はふたりの共通の友人なのか
この家の一時的な泊まり客のようであり
さらにまた、感情移入した私自身のようでもある。
最後、若い男がふたりの家を去ることになる。
その時に彼は、女から三つの手紙のような
あるいは三つの言葉そのもののような
いわく言いがたいメッセージを受け取る。
その三つの配列を並べ替えたり
重ねるように組み合わせたりすると
彼女の秘められたメッセージが読み取れるらしい。
ところが、この若い男でもある私は
それを解読しないうちに映画館を出てしまい
自宅の寝具の中、うすぼんやりと目覚めてしまった。
