絵を描いていた。
いつものように美人画である。
美人でなければ描く意欲が湧かないのは
人格に問題があるからだろうか。
そんなことを心配しながら
雑誌か何かの写真の上に直接
絵の具を筆で塗っていた。
写真を参考にすることはあっても
その上に絵を描いたことはないので
これは夢かもしれない
と思う。
それでも絵の具を塗り続けていると
やがて絵は完成してしまった。
絵の中の美人が微笑んでいる。
「絵の具が乾いたら、さよならね」
そんな声を聞いたような気がした。
まさか絵の中の人物が喋るはずないが
なんにせよ、さよならは困る。
絵の具が乾く前に夢から覚めるのだ。
そうしなければ彼女が消えてしまう。
せっかく描いた絵が永遠に失われてしまう。
なぜか、そう信じてしまった。
起きるのだ。
すぐに夢から覚めるのだ。
空中に手を伸ばして爪を立て
まるで見えない壁紙を剥がすように
ベリベリと目を覚ました。
すると、やっぱり夢だったわけだ。
美人画なんかどこにもない。
あまりにも情けなくて笑ってしまった。
だけど、よくよく考えてみると
もしもあのまま眠り続けていたら
きっと何もかも忘れてしまって
こんなふうに夢で描いた絵の話だって
誰にも伝えることはできなかったはずだ。
A Picture Drawn in a Dream
I was drawing a picture.

Then it was a dream after all.

I was laughing because I was too sad.

if I stayed asleep, I would have forgotten everything
