山には紅葉が敷かれていた。
空にはいわし雲が寝そべっている。
そして、谷川には丸木橋が架かっていた。
今、その丸木橋をひとりの山伏が渡ろうとしている。
すると、もうひとりの山伏が反対側から現れた。
どちらも道をゆずろうとしない。
大人げなく、われ先に橋を渡ろうとする。
ふたりの山伏は橋の中央でにらみ合った。
「戻れ。わしが渡るところだ」
「どけ。わしが先に渡るのだ」
どちらも金剛杖を振り上げ
にらんだまま引こうとしない。
「修験者なら、橋の裏でも逆さに歩け」
「なんと、こんな狭い谷すら跳び越せんのか」
「未熟者が！ 戻れ。戻らぬか」
「口でどかぬなら、腕づくでも」
二本の金剛杖が中央でぶつかった途端、
丸木橋がポキリと折れた。
どちらの山伏も谷川に落ちてしまった。
川の底はあまり深くないらしく
どちらも痛そうに腰をさすっている。
そんなふたりを見下ろしているのは
一匹の大きなタヌキだった。
「まだまだ修行が足らんな」
山伏と同じように腰をさすっている。
「ふたりものられると、とても化けきれんよ」

A Log Bridge
Autumn leaves were laid on the mountain.
Cirrocumulus lies in the sky.
And there was a log bridge over the river in the valley.
Now, a mountain priest is about to cross the log bridge.
Then another mountain priest appeared from the other side.
Neither tries to give way.
Both are unadulterated and try to cross the bridge first.
They glared at the center of the bridge.
"Go back. I'm about to cross."
"Open the way. I will cross first."
Both swing up the iron wand
and do not try to pull it while glaring.
"If you are a trainee,
walk upside down even behind the bridge."
"How can you jump over even such a narrow valley?"
"Inexperienced people! Go back. Go back."
"If you can't speak, I'll do it with my arms."
As soon as the two iron wands collided in the center,
the log bridge broke with noise.
Both mountain priests have fallen into the valley river.
The bottom of the river doesn't seem to be very deep,
and both are painfully rubbing their hips.
It was a big raccoon dog that looked down on them.
"I still don't have enough training."
He is rubbing his hips like they are.
"When two people are listed,
I can't transform myself very much."
