ひとり雪原を歩いていた。
目印になるものは何もなかった。
山も人家も見えず、一本の木さえない。
陽の位置すらつかめぬ灰色の空。
まったく何もない世界。
色すらない。
「おーい、誰かいないかー！」
返事はなかった。
木霊すら帰って来ない。
ひとりぼっち。
風すら撫でてくれない。
諦めかけた頃、足跡を見つけた。
鳥や獣ではない。
あきらかに人の足跡だ。
白と灰色とのあいまいな地平線へと続いている。
その先に誰かきっといるはずだ。
その足跡をたどるように歩く。
雪原にどこまでも続く足跡。
前にも、そして後ろにも続く。
どれくらい歩いただろう。
いつから歩いているのだろう。
距離と時間の感覚が麻痺している。
まだ足跡は消えていない。
いや、むしろ濃くなっている。
一人分の足跡だったのが二人分となり、
やがて三人分ほどになっている。
その上を踏むことになるで
前に比べたら随分と歩きやすくなった。
振り返れば四人分ほどの足跡の道ができている。
もうどれが自分の足跡なのか区別できない。
この歩きやすい道からはずれたくない気分。
もう自分は若くないのだ。
まだ誰にも会えない。
ただ足跡が続くばかり。
そして、うすうす気づいている。
もう自分はこの足跡から逃れられないと。
この終わりなき雪原の道が
たとえウロボロスの蛇のごとく
閉ざされた大いなる円環であるとしても。

Footprints in the Snowy Field
I was walking alone on a snowy field.
There was nothing to mark.
I see neither mountains nor houses,
nor even a single tree.
The gray sky where I can't even get the sun.
A world with nothing at all.
There is no color.
"Hey, is there anyone?"
There was no reply.
Even my voice does not return as echo.
I'm alone.
Even the wind does not stroke me.
When I was giving up, I found a footprint.
Not that of birds and beasts.
It is clearly a human footprint.
It leads to an ambiguous horizon of white and gray.
There must be someone ahead.
I walk down the footsteps.
Footprints that continue on the snowy field.
It continues before and after.
How long did I walk?
When have I been walking?
My sense of distance and time is paralyzed.
The footprint has not disappeared yet.
On the contrary, it is rather dark.
The footprint for one person is now for two people,
and eventually it is about three people.
As I stepped on it,
it was much easier to walk than before.
If I look back, there are about four footsteps.
I can't tell which one is my footprint.
I don't want to leave this walkable road.
I'm not young anymore.
I can't meet anyone yet.
Just footprints continue.
And I'm slightly lighter.
I can no longer escape this footprint.
Even if this endless road in the snowy field is
a great circle closed like a snake of Ouroboros.
