現実には存在しないはずなのに
その存在を意識させるものを「幽霊」とする。
道化師がパントマイムで壁を撫でる動作をすると、観客は
存在しないはずの壁があたかも目の前にあるかのように感じる。
同じくドアを開ける動作をすれば
見えないはずなのにドアが開いたような気がする。
つまり、観客は「壁」や「ドア」の幽霊を見たわけである。
この現象を応用すれば
いろいろな幽霊を手軽に作ることができる。
パントマイムを練習する必要はない。
パントマイムをする道化師と同じ意識を持てばいいわけである。
存在しないものをそこに存在するかのように意識する意識である。
「存在感」の感受性を意識的に増幅することかもしれない。
亡くなって数十年経っても話題になる人物なら
ほとんどそのまま幽霊である。
人に話しかけるようにペットに話しかける飼主を見かけるが
あれは人の言葉を理解できるペットという幽霊に対して
意識的または習慣的に話しかけているのだろう。
鏡の前で化粧に余念のない婦人は
もっと美しいはずの自分の姿という幽霊を
願望とともに鏡の向こうに見ようとしているのかもしれない。
または、相思相愛のアイドルの幽霊が頭から離れず
その幽霊と授業中にデートを楽しむ男子高校生とか。
さらに、UFOを見た人たちは、見上げる大空に
空飛ぶ異星人の乗り物の幽霊を意識したのではなかろうか。
そして、画家はキャンバスの中に「理想の美」なる幽霊を見る。
いや、違う。
むしろ我々は、幽霊しか見えていないのであろう。
ほとんど実体のようにしか見えない幽霊を。
だから、身近にいても存在感のない人の場合
たとえ怨みながら死んでも、まず幽霊にはなれまい。
