堪えがたい臭気を焦がすかのように
太いロウソクが灯っている。
闇に浮かぶ一頭の牛の横顔が眼前に見える。
どうやらここは夜の牛小屋。
あなたは日本刀を振りかざしている。
古風な野武士のような姿である。
あなたは目の前の牛の首を斬り落とすつもりでいる。
あなたにとって愛着のある大切な牛。
それが浮世の義理かなんであるか定かでないが
あなたはそうしなければならない立場に陥っている。
しかし、さすがに忍びない。
あなたは牛の気持ちがよくわかる。
ほとんど牛そのものになれるような気さえする。
角あり蹄あり、尻尾振り振り繰り返すは反芻の日々。
されるがままに引いて押して眠って起きて。
ふと見やれば、見慣れた男が光る細長きものを振り下ろす。
うなじに鋭き痛みが落ちる。
続いて顔面に地面の当たる感触。
転がったのちに見上げれば、呆然とした男の暗い顔。
その表情は、あの愚鈍な牛に似てはいないか。
それに気づくか気づかぬうち
あなたの左右離れた両目に、漆黒の闇が訪れる。
Cow Neck
