教室は国語の授業中。
なのに僕は外国語の教科書を読んでいる。
そのうち教師に叱られる。
「これから一週間、みっちり海で勉強してこい」
その意味はわからないが、それらしき意図はわかる。
申し訳なさそうに僕は謝る。
「しっかり溺れるまで頑張ります」
それなのに、どうしても授業に耐えられない。
国語がきらいなわけでなく
外国語が好きなわけでもない。
なにしろ、外国語の授業中には
国語の教科書を読むのだから。
隣席の同級生がこっそり教えてくれる。
「先生はおまえのこと、ずっと見ていたぞ」
つまり、教師は前から気づいていた。
授業の終了まぎわ、やっと注意したのだ。
僕はうなだれるしかない。

そして、授業終了のチャイムを待つばかり。
