じつは私は目が見えない。
若い頃に病気で失明したのだ。
ある日、家の中で手探りしながら腰を下ろそうとしたら
そこに椅子はなくて、そのままストンと落ちてしまった。
なのに、すぐに床に尻が着かない。
落ち続けているのは風を切る感じでわかる。
ひょっとして開け放たれた窓から落ちたのだろうか。
いやいや、そんなはずはない。
仮にそうだったとしても、家は平屋なのだから。
ああ、これはもしかしたら
死んでゆく時の感覚なのかもしれない。
そう思いついた途端、安心したのか
ちゃんと椅子に座っている自分に気づいた。
In the Dark
Actually I am blind.
I lost my sight when I was young.
One day, when I was groping around in the house
and tried to sit down,
there was no chair there and I fell straight down.
But I can't get my butt to the floor right away.
I know that I keep falling
because I feel like I'm cutting through the wind.
Could it be that I fell through an open window?
