その証拠に、今おれがのぼった階段は十六段だった。
百八段くらいあってもいいのに。
それにしても、情け容赦ない。
こういう形で死を迎えるとは想定外だった。
落し戸の上に立たされ、目隠しされた。
縄の輪を首にかけられた。
偉い人が何か言った。
意味がわからなかった。
沈黙が訪れた。
それから、足もとの底が抜けた。
････と思ったら
クッションの上に落ちた。
同時に歓声と拍手。
目隠しが外された。
たくさんの笑顔とカメラが見える。
「ははっ、ほんの冗談だよ」
