大雨が降ったという記憶もないが
洪水でもあったのだろうか。
道路が川になっている。
これでは買い物に出られない。
二階のベランダから家の前の通りを見下ろす。
通勤のサラリーマンがカヌーを漕いでいる。
通学の小学生はビニールプールごと流されている。
ことさら驚いている様子もない。
まるで私がのほほんと余生を送っている間に
秘密裏に都市計画が進んでいたかのようである。
近頃、世間の流れがわからない。
テレビは家にないし、新聞も取ってないのだ。
それはともかく、なんとかしなければ。
小舟になるようなもの、家にあったろうか。
洗面器やバケツでは役に立つまい。
通販でカヌーでも買うしかないかな。
なんにせよ、面倒臭いし、えらい出費だ。
私は溜息をつきながら
寝ぼけ頭のままパソコンの電源を入れた。

I look down on the street in front of my house
from the balcony on the second floor.
An office worker commuting is paddling a canoe.
An elementary school student
who goes to school is swept away by the vinyl pool.
They don't seem particularly surprised.
It's as if the city was being planned
in secret during the rest of my life.
I don't know what's going on in the world these days.
I don't have a TV at home,
and I don't have a newspaper.
Anyway, I have to do something.
I wonder if there was something
like a small boat in our house.
A basin or a bucket will not help.
I wonder if I have to buy a canoe on mail order.
Anyway, it's a hassle and a big expense.
I sighed and turned on the computer
with my head still half asleep.
