私は老いさらばえた指揮者である。
長年、地元の交響楽団を指揮してきたが
そこを引退してからは趣味で動物たちを指揮している。
クマに楽器を演奏させるサーカスみたいなのではなく
持ち前の発音発声の特技を活かしてやるのだ。
スズムシの鈴の音、ウグイスのさえずり、
キツツキのドラミング、ウサギのスタンピング、
猫の甘え声、犬の吠え声、などなど。
ライオンの咆哮なども加えたいのだが
さすがに世話が大変だし、そんな予算もない。
ともかく、これら雑多な音声を組み合わせ
適宜タイミングよく発するよう仕向けるわけだ。
複数の犬が吠え合って収拾がつかなくなったり
肝心な時に眠ってしまったり、なかなか大変。
それでも、ウサギにニンジン与えるフリして与えなかったり
猫にマタタビ嗅がせながらくすぐったりしているうちに
偶然のように見事なハーモニーを奏でる瞬間が訪れる。
「ささやかな奇跡」と呼んでいるが
なかなか楽しいものである。
音声だけならパソコンのソフトで編集することも可能で
実際にそれでCDを作ってみたこともある。
しかしながら、仲間内ではウケたものの
やはり生演奏が一番だと思う。
指揮者の動物的勘が試される
というものだ。
Animal Symphony Orchestra
I am an old conductor.
For many years I conducted a local symphony orchestra,
but after retiring there I conducted animals as a hobby.
It's not like a circus where bears play musical instruments,
but they use their natural pronunciation and vocal skills.
The sound of the bell of the thrush,
Warblers chirping, woodpeckers drumming,
Rabbit stamping, cat pampering, dog barking, etc.
I'd like to add a lion's roar,
but it's really hard to take care of,
and I don't have the budget for that.
In any case, I combine these miscellaneous voices
and try to make them sound at the right time.
Multiple dogs barking at each other
and getting out of control, falling asleep
at the critical moment, it's quite difficult.
Still, while pretending to give carrots to rabbits
but not giving them, or tickling cats while sniffing catnip,
a moment will come when they play
a wonderful harmony like a coincidence.
"A little miracle," as I call it, and it's pretty fun.
If it's just the audio,
it's possible to edit it with computer software,
and I've actually tried making a CD with it.
However, I think that live performance is the best,
even though it was popular among my friends.
It is a test of the conductor's animal intuition.
