この通路を抜けるのが近道なんだよ」
下校途中、あかねちゃんが言う。
「えっ？ それっておかしいよ。だって
あかねちゃんち、この道をまっすぐのところじゃん」
ぼくは算数の図形の話をしたくなる。
「そう思うでしょ？ でも違うんだな、これが」
あかねちゃん、その狭い隙間から中に入ってしまった。
しょうがないので、ぼくも続く。
「ここ、よそんちの庭じゃないの？」
「そうよ」
「見つかったら怒られるよ」
「平気だって。当然って顔してれば、大丈夫」
それから小川を飛び越え、線路下のトンネルをくぐると
見覚えのある場所に出た。
「あれ？ ここって････」
「そうよ。あれがあたしんち」
本当に近道なのだった。

A Secret Passage
"The shortest way to get to my house from here
is to pass through this passage."
Akane says on the way home from school.
"Huh? That's strange,
because your house is straight down this road."
I want to talk about figures in arithmetic.
"You think so, don't you? But that's not true."
She entered through the narrow opening.
I can't help it, so I will continue.
"Isn't this in someone else's garden?"
"That's right."
"If they find us, they will get angry."
"I'm fine. If you make a face of course, you'll be fine."
Then we jumped over a creek,
went through a tunnel under the tracks,
and found ourselves in a familiar place.
"Huh? This place..."
"Yes. That's my house."
It was really close.
