子どもの頃、実家には大きな柿の木があった。
木造二階建ての屋根よりずっと高かった。
親父の手作りだろう、さお竹の先に針金の輪があり
それに網袋を装着した補虫網のような道具で
屋根の上から柿の実をもぎ取っていた。
小学校の同級生がすぐ下の道を通ると、声をかけ
取ったばかりの実を放り投げてやったりした。
ところが、中学生になったかならないかの頃
家を新築した時、この柿の木は切り倒されてしまった。
なぜ親に反対しなかったのか。
切り倒さざるを得ないもっともな理由があったのか。
今となっては思い出せない、わからない。
たまに渋いところもあったが、赤くなれば
ゴマと呼んでいた黒い色素も増えて甘くなる。
そんな大きな柿の実のなる大きな柿の木だった。

The Big Persimmon Tree
When I was a kid,
I had a big persimmon tree in my parents' house.
It was much higher
than the wooden two-story roof.
Probably my father's handmade,
there was a wire ring at the tip of the bamboo,
and with a tool like an insect net
with a net bag attached to it,
I was peeling the persimmon fruit from the roof.
When an elementary school classmate
passed the road just below,
I called out and threw the freshly picked fruit.
However, when I was a junior high school student,
when the house was newly built,
this persimmon tree was cut down.
Why didn't I object to my parents?
Was there a good reason to cut it down?
I can't remember now, I don't know.
The fruits were sometimes astringent,
but when they turned red, the black pigment
called sesame increased and became sweeter.
It was a big persimmon tree
that bears the fruit of such a big persimmon.
