昔の古い木造の家には、子ども心にせよ
怖い場所がいくつもあった。
階段の下の三角スペース。
狭い入口の暗い物置部屋。
台所には井戸があった。
薪で炊く風呂釜もあった。
重そうな古だんすが置いてあって
二階の親の部屋も落ち着かなかった。
「あっぱんじょ」と呼んでいたが
汲み取り式の便所も安心できない場所だった。
まだ蛍光灯がなかった時代。
ようやくテレビが普及し始めた頃。
今の子どもたちには家の中に
まだ怖い場所が残されているのだろうか。

Scary Place
There were many scary places in old wooden houses,
even children's minds.
Triangular space under the stairs.
A dark storage room with a narrow entrance.
There was a well in the kitchen.
There was also a bath kettle cooked with firewood.
There was a heavy old dance, and my parents' room
on the second floor was uncomfortable.
I used to call it "Appanjo", but the pit latrine
was also a place where I couldn't feel at ease.
An era when there were no fluorescent lights yet.
Around the time
when television finally began to spread.
Do children today still have scary places
in their homes?
